Marcus read History and Politics at Birmingham University and took an MA in Legal and Political theory at UCL. He then became a journalist contributing to a broad range of titles. At 27 he went to LAMDA and trained as an actor. In 2004, Age-Sex-Location, his play about virtual world's was staged at the Riverside Studios. He is a regular performer with Fluxx - a dramatic improvisation theatre company based in London and a co-founder of Dynamis Plc, an online media group.
